Here are afew notes from our gathering yesterday. Feel free to respond, add=

We ponderedthe question, =E2=80=9CWhat helps you to be your best as a minis=
ter?=E2=80=9D
I shared my=E2=80=9Cjealousy over the sheep.=E2=80=9D At my worst I get ter=
ritorial and defensive when itcomes to joint ministry. When in a better fra=
me of mind I want what is best forall people wherever and with whomever the=
y find a connection and getnourishment.
John Gbrought two books pertaining to the topic, =E2=80=9CPersonality Plus=
=E2=80=9D and =E2=80=9CThe FiveLove Languages.=E2=80=9D He has found it fre=
eing to discover more about his ownpersonality and gained a greater appreci=
ation for the uniqueness of others.These books also helped with understandi=
ng how to fill one=E2=80=99s own =E2=80=9Clove tank=E2=80=9Dand how to best=
 appreciate and build up others.=20
As far asmotivation goes, John likes to have a clear vision of where he and=
 the churchwant to go. This pulls him forward.
Jared spokeof the hundreds of Swahili speakers in the area. Many go to big =
congregationsin the area but come to him for help when they have needs. Thi=
s is a challengefor him. He shared the insight that these are not his sheep=
 but they are Jesus=E2=80=99sheep.
Manda talkedabout unspoken or disparate expectations being a problem.=20
Jimmentioned a comment from Bill Wong about Paul=E2=80=99s churches no long=
er being inexistence. The ministry continues but it is not tied down geogra=
phically.Pulling back and seeing the big picture keeps us from getting too =
attached.
Peggy findsthat regular engagement with scripture and colleagues keeps her =
honest, aware,grounded, and reminds her of her calling.
Anne talkedabout getting =E2=80=9Cdo overs=E2=80=9D every day. This is at t=
he center of our Lutheranfaith. We are both saint and forgiven sinner at th=
e same time.
Cristinasaid her best practice is to rely on the Holy Spirit, remembering t=
hat we areflawed human beings and that the day will not go as planned. We a=
re not goingto meet the expectations of all people and that is okay. She al=
so likes=E2=80=9Cdo-over Thursday=E2=80=A6=E2=80=9D=20
David Dahl=E2=80=99sbest practices are to =E2=80=9Ckeep curious and keep it=
 simple.=E2=80=9D
David Bondetalked about truly becoming a Lutheran while in a missions class=
 and hearing amissionary to Thailand differentiate between the monk (Luther=
) and the monk=E2=80=99sunderstanding of the gospel. He considers the =E2=
=80=9Ctentmaking=E2=80=9D part of ministry tobe what allows us to bring a w=
ord of grace and these moments make it allworthwhile. In the midst of a cha=
otic situation in Detroit he stepped away andpondered a maple tree. He came=
 to the conclusion that as the maple tree onlyneeds to be a maple tree, he =
only needs to be himself.
Ben tries tobring joy to ordinary situations. Add an element of happiness, =
something to beexcited about. Remind people that there is a task to be done=
 when groups gatherbut there is value in the gathering itself. Bring a non-=
anxious presence tosystems to avoid short circuits. We are more than a soci=
al service providerwith sacraments (Bishop Eaton.) Faith comes by hearing. =
We are in the good newsbusiness. Lift up the name of Jesus.

Hello to All,


What helps you to be your best as a minister of Jesus Christ? I'm asking fo=
r your help as we gather Thursday, October 6th, at St. Luke. We will meet f=
or communion at noon and then a brown-bag lunch during which we will have a=
 chance to share. I find that my sinful self gets in the way of being the h=
ealthiest pastor I can be. When I have my own outcomes in mind then it can =
make what the Spirit has planned feel like an interruption. When I am conce=
rned about numbers it can take the focus off the individuals God has called=
 me to care for. Please come and share for one to two minutes what helps yo=
u to get beyond yourself and be the healthiest minister you can be. What ar=
e some practices that remind you that you are loved and valuable? What move=
s you to serve both sacrificially and joyfully? Your input would be a big h=
elp for me and I look forward to what you have to share with the group. Don=
't forget to bring a lunch if you want to eat during the meeting. We will h=
ave snacks and drinks available.

In the case that we haven't met, I'm Manda Truchinski the dean of our new C=
onference 6. On Saturday, September 17th we've been invited to gather as a =
conference by Synod Council. Advent Lutheran Church in Morgan Hill will hos=

I attached our agenda for the day so that you can see the forming plans. Wh=
at I hope you'll concern yourselves with is using this time to bring as man=
y of your community members along to Morgan Hill so that we can introduce (=
or re-introduce) ourselves to one another.=20


In our conference we have 25 unique communities of faithful Jesus followers=
, a campus ministry, a camping ministry, an emerging ministry with houseles=
s people, schools...and I suspect there are a bunch of other really cool th=
ings happening that I'm not aware of, but excited to learn about. While we =
don't know exactly what our new conference will look like, or how it will f=
unction, I know that we'll all be better servants of Christ if we work toge=
ther.=20

rned about numbers it can take the focus off the individuals God has called=

e some practices that remind you that you are loved and valuable? What move=
s you to serve both sacrificially and joyfully? Your input would be a big h=

<div>In our conference we have 25 unique communities of faithful Jesus foll=
owers, a campus ministry, a camping ministry, an emerging ministry with hou=
seless people, schools...and I suspect there are a bunch of other really co=

e we don't know exactly what our new conference will look like, or how it w=
ill function, I know that we'll all be better servants of Christ if we work=
 together.&nbsp;</div>
