No flags in sanctuary at Grace.  We do have flags on display every Sunday  =
out front in the street entry way from 'all nations'.  We do have the flag =
on video screen during patriotic festivals like Memorial Day and July 4 as =
part of videos about the day.  The Scouts do bring the flag into the Church=
 for their Courts of Honor. They also have a Grace Church Flag for the Troo=
p. I find all that to be wonderful as we show respect to God and Country.

Probably more important the 'why' for the flag interest. As a congregation =
we are responsive and respect all that those who have served and are servin=
g in the armed forces to protect our freedoms.=20

We have a great association with the Russian Music School in town. They are=
 a testimony to the success of the Soviet Communist system to erase religio=
n and a culture from their people. Many of the Teacher Musicians are jewish=
 and know NOTHING about their Jewish heritage. None show any appreciation f=
or religion of any kind and their questions are most rudimentary and basic.=
 Soviet response to freedom was apparently to eliminate religious culture. =
They also apparently were very successful at it. One reason to raise the Am=
erican flag but probably not enough to raise it in the Sanctuary.
