Care Program in case anyone in the Bay area can help. The children are=C2=
=A0not Kidsave kids. They are a young mother and her=C2=A0baby who are in i=
mmigration detention, having been granted asylum in the USA but stuck in de=
tention until someone can care for them. The Refugee Foster Care program is=
 based in San Jose, and is a wonderful program (I know because I am a foste=
r parent with the program! - and you do not have to be Catholic to be a fos=
ter parent). Please follow up with Catholic Charities at the contact inform=
ation below if you would like more information or think you may be able to =

Friends and colleagues, I'm writing to ask you to kindly share this with yo=
ur friends and colleagues. =C2=A0We are trying to find a home in the Bay Ar=
ea for a mother and child who have been in federal detention for more than =
a year. =C2=A0The child, who I'll call Maria, is a 17 year old Spanish spea=
king youth from El Salvador who fled her country because of abuse and traum=
a. =C2=A0She arrived to the U.S. pregnant, and had her son in custody, who =
we'll call Mario, who is now 10 months old.
=C2=A0
Maria has a chronic illness that can be managed, but might become terminal =
if not treated appropriately. =C2=A0The child is healthy--and is a bouncing=
 baby boy. =C2=A0Apparently, he is well-adjusted and mild-mannered. =C2=A0A=
s expected, Maria has some mental health issues. =C2=A0She came to the U.S.=
 to reunify with her mother--but was rejected, and is all alone in the U.S.=
 =C2=A0The effects of prolonged detention, medical issues, new mother issue=
s, and trauma are compounding each other. =C2=A0With a supportive family en=
vironment, and lots of care and support, I know she can improve.=C2=A0
=C2=A0
Maria has been eligible for long term federal foster care, but no program i=
n the nation has been able to place her and she's been waiting nearly a yea=
r. =C2=A0In part, programs haven't been able to accept her because of her m=
edical condition, or the fact that she is with child, or combination of bot=
h. =C2=A0So I'm reaching out to a wider network to ask for your advocacy to=
 share her story and see if there's anyone you know who can help this extre=
mely vulnerable mother and child. =C2=A0From our side, we commit to providi=
ng the foster family with the support and resources to help Maria and Mario=
